Well ladies and gentlemen this is the final four episodes. In here you will accumulate the conclusion to the Witchblade series. What finally happens to Masane and her daughter? Will the unique leader of the NSWF raze Masane and hold the Witchblade for herself? These will be some of the most emotional episodes in the series, and some of the longest fighting scenes also. If you have been watching the series from the begin then this recall is a must. If you have yet to inspect Witchblade, it has profitable action and a broad fable.

The destiny of the Witchblade continues…

This is a stout series overall. The intention battles are balanced out against the record is very genuine. There is PLENTY of fanservice if that is your thing, but it really comes earlier in the series as this disc closes the anecdote of this Witchblade.

The changes Masane has expected with the Witchblade launch, and the last three episodes on the disc really tie together into one myth episode that views quite like a mini-movie. The sage builds in the first three episodes focusing on the relationships Masane has developed, and then in the fourth episode “Light” all hell breaks loose as the I-weapons, Cloneblades, and Witchblade all remove in a final showdown in the middle of Tokyo. The destroy leaves plenty to the imagination, but discover beyond the credits because there is a bit more to be seen.

If you haven’t purchased this series by volume, wait for the inevitable box situation. If you’ve been watching, appreciate the last volume.

Double Indemnity is obviously a classic film but this DVD transfer is appalling. Almost every scene is incredibly grainy, the source print is obviously not in very respectable conditon (perhaps needing to be refurbished), and to top it off, there are no deluxe features and the extra packaging is rather inadequate(with no information booklet or history of the movie) .

This would be frustrating for any film but is downright outrageous treatment of a cinema classic. We can only hope someone will expend the time and money distinguished to restore the print for a fresh theater rush, as has been done with other older films. Perhaps then, DVD buyers will score the version of this classic they deserve.

What a substantial film! It’s fair improbable. Especially Edward G. Robinson. Sadly, it’s a bit dated (distinguished of the dialogue looks rather campy by today’s standards), but the spot hasn’t primitive a day. It’s peaceful a tense and engaging film noir masterpiece.

It’s a pity the DVD is so very abominable. It’s really terrible. I can’t stress this enough. It’s very grainy, there are no bonus features at all, and there’s no liner notes at all. Extremely shoddy treatment of such a astounding film. I’d like to explore a special edition of this film produced as soon as possible, and done upright!

I won’t spoil much for you, but this DVD is awesome. The enemy is not who you might expect, in fact, I can pretty much guarantee it. The emotions of the males and females reach an all time high as the women finally lose their cool with the ‘insufferable’ men. Hibiki is without a doubt one of the better lead characters in a while. Now I just have to wait until Second Stage is out!

This last DVD has a lot more action than the previous discs. As the series goes on there are more and more questions being brought up about the universe in which all this is taking place, which I think is a pretty good combination of great fun with some very good story elements. Hibiki is growing up, Dita is maturing (a bit anyway). I would give this DVD 5 stars if it weren’t for the fact that although there are good plot twists, they don’t really have any effect on the current situation aboard the Nirvana, nor are any questions answered, just more brought up.
! This is the last DVD of the first season! It took me a bit of research to figure it out, but this is a sort of “season finale”. Season two is Vandread: Second Stage.

As always the DVD itself is in a cool metallic cover and has the now standard extras, non credit openings and art. This DVD also has poster style pictures of the mecha and characters, which I thought was really cool. The ending song is really catchy by the way, and I would totally recommend the audio CDs released. The special effects in this disc continue to please the eyes. CG battle scenes are fun to watch. This was a pretty fun first series, and I can tell you that after seeing the next few episodes of Second Stage, my interest is even more piqued for the entire story!

So here’s the long awaited “Elegant In Pink”, finally on DVD! I really don’t consider I need to review the recount of the movie- if you are reading this you have probably seen it! I’m thrilled that Paramount has finally build this out on DVD. But… and there is a Large “but”….

There are no extra goodies on this DVD. The modern ending (Molly Ringwald ends up with Duckie) is not here. (Check it out: Andrew McCarthy looks COMPLETELY different in the last seen. His hair is longer, his skin is whiter, and he looks about 10 years older, even though the ending was filmed only several months after the principle shooting ended!) That is a total missed opportunity that legions of Molly Ringwald/Brat Pack/John Hughes/80’s teen flick fans have been waiting to explore for years! There’s not even a theatrical trailer on this DVD! I can understand that deleted scenes, a theatrical trailer- these things can pick up lost in the vaults over the years. But you simply cannot convey me that they couldn’t dig up the video for OMD’s “If You Leave” to place on here!

Some commentary would have been mountainous as well! There are all sorts of things that the director could have discussed: OMD originally did a song for “Aesthetic In Pink” called “Goddess Of Savor”. When the ending of the movie changed, they recorded a recent song (”If You Leave”) … “Goddess Of Savor” ended up going on their “Pacific Age” album. More trivia: Molly’s well-liked group at the time, The Rave-Up’s, compose in the movie. (Their song wasn’t on the soundtrack.) Molly carries a notebook in “Sixteen Candles” that has “The Rave-Up’s” handwritten across it.

Watch out for an early performance by Gina Gershon! She barely has any lines- I reflect she’s in about two scenes. You won’t miss those lips of hers. Also spy for Dweezil Zappa (as “Simon”) . Annie Potts practically steals the point to in this pre-”Designing Women” performance. Not to be missed!

All in all… this is a sizable DVD. It’s nice to behold it letterboxed. Paramount unprejudiced missed a titanic opportunity by not going the extra mile by putting out something special for such a beloved 80’s movie.

I worship this movie. I bought the first release of the DVD without a single feature on it, impartial so I could gape it over and over. It was the first DVD I bought when I got my player.

I almost fell over with joy when I saw the “Everything’s Duckie” edition at Best Catch yesterday. I could barely gain my excitement. FINALLY, I would gain to ogle the ending that John Hughes intended- where Andie (Molly Ringwald) ends up with sweet, lovable Duckie (Jon Cryer) instead of smarmy, sappy richie “major appliance” Blane (Andrew McCarthy) .

THE Novel ENDING IS NOT ON THIS DVD. That is a total rip-off. It says in dumb English, on the list of features “Unique Ending”. Instead of showing it, they talk about it and why it didn’t work.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Pretty in Pink! Click Here

Buy,Download, Or Stream Pretty in Pink! Click Here

It sounds like the right reason they changed the ending was that Molly Ringwald had the hots for Andrew McCarthy. And if the test audience booed, then they clear as hell didn’t display it to a group of high school outcasts.

When the scene wasn’t in the special feature, I even went so far as to spy the destroy of the movie thinking maybe they had actually assign it in the feature. But no. For the one hundreth time, I had to explore Duckie get eyes at a rich girl with gargantuan boobs (Kristy Swanson, pre-Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and Andie form out with Sap-face in the parking lot.

Dang.

The other features are delicate icy. There are a lot of interviews and stuff. But you can’t call it the “Duckie Edition” if she doesn’t raze up with Duckie. Period.

Despite several negative feedback, I believe Gravion is a great addition to anyone’s anime collection. I actually bought this dvd on a whim and prepared for the worst. However, Gravion is superb in their animation as well as their combination of action and comedy. It is reminiscent of the good-old Voltron days. Although in the first episodes, Gravion throws in a bunch of wacky characters, their personalities are more developed as the series continues. The subtitles are also very accurate and even the english dubbing is excellent (although I prefer to hear it in Japanese with english subtitles) The anime style is also very good and I would recommend this to anyone new or old to anime. Oh also, the ‘fan service’ isn’t too extreme (its bearable). The music throughout the series is also wonderful and memorable. You won’t regret it!

This is not the best anime ever, but it is entertaining for those of us who remember Voltron and Dai-Guard. Why I like it: 1-The art work and acting, 2- one of the English speaking actors does Goku in Saiyuki 3-Storyline is decent 4-And it’s FUN. I’ve only seen up to ep. 6 on Anime Network but I am planing to buy the rest. A solid three stars for me, because the characters could be a bit more developed, but the rest pretty much makes up for it.

I own both the US and international versions of this film, and the international edition is much better. Both versions carry a slight sexual tension throughout between Leon and Matilda, and the uncut version is more pronounced in this area, but that isn’t the reason to buy it.

The extra 24 minutes on the uncut version provides a deeper understanding of the relationship between the two as the film progresses. For example, in the US version Matilda never becomes a real “cleaner” or hitman. It’s only hinted at when they shoot a jogger from a rooftop with blanks. In the uncut version, Leon takes her completely under his wing and teaches her the trade, including scenes where the pair run around killing bad guys and such. In the process, Leon teaches her the “ring trick” by tossing a grenade at a victim and keeping the ring and grenade pin in his hand. This scene sets up the final scenes in the movie in a way that the US version left short and unexplained.

If you enjoyed the US version, you’ll probably love the uncut version more, if only because the characters and their relationships are much deeper.

French director Luc Besson (”The Messenger”; “The Fifth Element”) made his U.S. film debut with this intelligent thriller of an Italian hitman who is untouchable. “The Professional” stars Jean Reno (”The Big Blue”) who plays Leon, a professional hitman with ninja-like skills, who eliminates rivals for a mob boss (Danny Aiello).

After a corrupt cop (Gary Oldman) eliminates the family residing next door due to a drug transaction gone wrong, Leon finds himself the guardian of young Mathilda (Natalie Portman in her screen debut). Taking Mathilda under his helm, Leon teaches her the art of the “cleaner”. However, danger lurks around every corner, and Leon must protect Mathilda from the same cops who killed her family.

Considered by many to be his masterpiece, “The Professional” was originally released internationally under the title “Leon”. However due to the feeling that American audiences might find some material unacceptable, over 24 minutes of the film was edited out. Finally, Columbia/Tri-Star has made an excellent decision in releasing the uncut, international version of this excellent film in the U.S. as it originally was called in August 2000.

While the film’s central theme revolves around Leon and his job, the subplot where Mathilda develops an attraction for Leon is reminiscent of the novel/film “Lolita”. The chemistry between both characters in a father/daughter relationship can be intense, especially as we notice that Mathilda is in her puberty-stage.

Jean Reno is excellent as always, and Gary Oldman gives a chilling performance as Stansfield, the wicked DEA officer who murdered Mathilda’s family in cold blood. However, the real scene-stealer in this film has to be Natalie Portman. This beautiful young girl radiates beauty and professionalism throughout the film. Her porcelain-looking skin, and her big brown eyes are well utilized in this film, making her character more childish, yet mature to a certain extent. Portman proved to audiences in this film that she was no flash in the pan, and in her subsequent films, she continues to be a scene-stealer. She is truly Hollywood’s most gifted young actress.

In the international version, most of the 24 minutes that were left out in the film’s 1994 release in the U.S. mainly involves both Leon and Mathilda going on “cleaning sweeps” where she gets first hand training in the art of assassination. The other half of these minutes focuses on Mathilda’s attraction to Leon. Her persistent attempts to be intimate with Leon all fail, but we finally understand why Leon remains a loner when it comes to affairs if the heart. Some might be uncomfortable about the idea of Mathilda and Leon sharing a bed together, but Besson paints this scene as one involving platonic love and not sex.

In wrapping up, I recommend this film for anyone who enjoys a nonstop, high-impact thriller in the same tradition as the “Matrix,” “Blade,” or “Dead Calm”. Luc Besson truly is one of the world’s greatest action directors, and “Leon” captures his magic. An excellent, pulstaing film from beginning to end!

This is the second of two boxed sets celebrating the one hundredth birthday of Bette Davis. The other one is from Warner Home Video, and since Bette Davis is often called “the fifth Warner Brother”, obviously Warner’s has a worthy larger library of films from which to determine. My main complaint with this location is not that the films are not righteous, but that two of the films - “Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte” and “All About Eve” have already been released by Fox under the Studio Classics notice. That leaves only three films modern to DVD in this spot.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Bette Davis Centenary Celebration Collection! Click Here

As for the three films that are modern to DVD, chances are you may have never even heard of them, remarkable less seen them. The spot is that Fox owns the rights, won’t let anyone else such as Turner Classic Movies televise them, and would rather televise “Wall Street” ten times a month on the Fox Movie Channel rather than build these older beneficial films on at all.

All About Eve (1950) - This film brought Davis’ career aid from the brink and place up a very productive second act in her career. Margo (Bette Davis) plays an scared aging star who helps a very poisonous young ingenue, Eve, (Anne Baxter) bag started. As Margo, Davis throws some of the best tantrums of her career. Fair when you assume there is nobody more obnoxious than Anne Baxter’s Eve Harrington, along comes George Sander’s Addison DeWitt and kicks her to the curb in that category.

Phone Call From a Stranger (1952) - This is an unique win for a boxed plot about Bette Davis, since she has practically a cameo role here. Instead the lead role goes to Davis’ husband at the time, Gary Merrill. The film is about four strangers on a plane that is destined to shatter. Only one survives (Gary Merrill) . After the break, he goes to contact the families of the three who did not survive the wreck and finds three very different groups of people with different problems. You hardly ever eye this one on TV, and it is very fine so that is too terrible. Fair don’t demand stout doses of Davis in this one.

The Queen (1955) - This is Davis’ second film in which she plays Queen Elizabeth I of England. Personally, I plan 1939’s “Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex” was better, but it is hard to compare the two since this film takes area 15 years earlier in history than “Private Lives” and has Davis essentially playing Elizabeth at the age - 47 - that Davis actually is. Here Richard Todd plays Sir Walter Raleigh, who, like Essex in the earlier film, is a younger man who trades on Elizabeth’s like for him to rep some personal glory. Richard Todd plays Raleigh effectively, but there is honest no topping the charisma of Flynn in the earlier movie. Special features:

Behind the Scenes - A “Making Of” featurette

Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte (1964) - Meant to be a kind of sequel to “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? “, this film is missing the dynamic of those dueling actresses, Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. Instead we have the perennial sweet thing of the golden age of Hollywood, Olivia de Havilland, playing opposite to Bette Davis. As a teenager Charlotte Hollis (Bette Davis) was presumed guilty of killing her married lover. Her wealthy father got her out of it, but Charlotte has lived as a recluse ever since and is facing eviction from the family plantation. Her cousin Miriam Deering (Olivia de Havilland) comes to visit unprejudiced as Charlotte seems to be going over the edge with visions of her murdered lover from 37 years before.

Special features:

Behind the Scenes - “Hush…Hush, Sweet Joan: The Making of CHARLOTTE”

Featurettes -

1. “Bruce Dern Remembers”

2. “Wizard Work” (Vintage Featurette)

The Nanny (1965) - Another one you don’t glance very often anywhere. In fact it’s been years since I’ve seen it and I can’t even remember where. Ten year aged Joey has a recent nanny, Bette Davis. I don’t believe she even had a name in this one, consider “the nanny”. Nobody believes think Joey when he claims that the nanny is assume and wants to assume him - she’s such a sweet deem lady. You know where this one is probably going from the deem, but it’s assume to believe it play out. However, there is some very disturbing stuff in this one, so deem that it might be difficult to recognize. It takes trusty advantage of the fact that Davis could play anything from the sweetest to the most infamous person in the world, and turn on a dime at either kill of the scale.

All of the films have trailers and a stills gallery as extras. I am rating this residence as follows:

Value - 3 stars due to the two double-dips.

Quality - 5 stars since the films are all very great.

Result: 4 stars

“All About Eve” & “Hush…Hush Sweet Charlotte” are re-issued and re-packaged with unique extras in this dazzling site. Novel to DVD are “The Virgin Queen”, “The Nanny”, and “Phone Call From a Stranger”. All are encased in their maintain individual slim-cases with art work. For Davis fans, this edition is completely worth it. A bravura array of Davis performances is featured here. And the performances couldn’t be more different: a Broadway star, a timid Southern recluse, a Queen of England, a British nanny, and the runt but pivotal role of a wife of a plane smash victim. The prints are heavenly and the extras are agreeable including a 4-page booklet with added info on each film. As with all these sets, it unbiased leaves you wanting more. However, this one was worth waiting for. Savor.

The editor’s review of this film is a fair enough description of the plot. One should add that, despite being made in 1971, the movie manages not to look dated, precisely because it makes such fun of the early 70s style, and that the acting by the three main characters (Harold, Maude and Harold’s mother) is simply inspired. Ruth Gordon is splendid of course, while Bud Cort gives a lifetime performance, but it is the portrayal of Harold’s mother by Vivian Pickles (what a splendid name for someone in the role) that has to be the most undercelebrated aspect of this film. Her breezy blitheness, outraged exasperation, and British sensibility are all just too wonderful. Filling out a dating questionnaire for her son, in response to the question “Do you find the idea of wife-swapping offensive” she answers, “I find the question offensive.” In response to the question, “Do you feel the women’s liberation movement has gone too far,” she replies, “It cer-tain-ly has.” Even “Harold, eat your beets” is delivered so wonderfully that it’s memorable. Eric Christmas also makes the bit-part of a priest into something memorable, principally by one splendid monologue.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Harold and Maude! Click Here

NOTE: It’s been pointed out that a lot of the plot is given away in the following. It’s hard to say how much spoilers actually spoil this movie; spoilers may help to make the movie’s wisdom more readily apparent on a first viewing. In any case, there are several ahead.

But is this really a black comedy? Personally, I think of black comedies as being morbid and mordant, which Harold & Maude certainly has elements of, but also ultimately cynical. One should not mistake grimness in a film as a sign of nihilism; as the Japanese proverb runs, the ending is all-important. The film ultimately is not about an intergenerational love affair (surely the most “shocking” aspect of the film), but about Harold learning to embrace life. And it is precisely to make as effective as possible Harold’s decision to live life to the fullest (rather than continue to prefer to be dead) that it is first necessary to make his life miserable.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Harold and Maude! Click Here

As insanely amusing as much of the movie is, it is also full of profundity after profundity from Maude, who is a nearly continuous font of wisdom, with laughter and humor being simply the most crucial values in her wisdom. When she asks Harold what he does for fun, he takes her to a picnic in a wrecking yard. She replies, “I’ll grant you, it has a certain something. But is it enough?” When Harold declines her offer of wine, she replies, “Oh go on, it’s organic.” And most beautiful of all, when Harold says, “I don’t want you to die, Maude. I love you,” she replies with perfect calmness, “Harold, that’s wonderful. Now go out and love some more.” If you’ve been caught up in the genuine spirit of this movie, the line will not seem like some breezy brush-off, but may instead bring tears to your eyes.

The scene of Harold’s grief after Maude’s death, intercutting silent images of him waiting in a hospital room and driving recklessly around the Marin headlands in the Jaguar he has converted into a hearse while Cat Steven’s song, “Trouble” plays, is very well-done and sets up the climax of the film beautifully. Cat Steven’s soundtrack throughout, in fact, is a splendid selection of songs, and certainly makes clear that, however morbid things might seem, this film is ultimately life-affirming in a very profound way.

Having watched this movie many, many times and having yet to tire of it, it seems to me there is more to it than meets the eye. And not just because, when Harold gives Maude an engraved birthday gift, she says, “This is the nicest gift anyone has given me in a long time,” and then throws it into the San Francisco Bay saying, “That way, I’ll always know where it is.” And not just because one eventually notices, in the briefest of passing shots, the tattoo of a concentration camp inmate on Maude’s arm. In the final analysis, it seems to me that Harold is actually already dead. That his theatrical suicides aren’t faked at all, but also don’t succeed because he himself is not aware that he’s actually dead. It’s probably more accurate to say that the director pushes the narrative to the point where Harold seems to be actually dead and not just faking, precisely to make his choice of life at the end all the more inspiring.

And inspiring it is. Harold & Maude is not (alas) for everyone. A viewer who is hidebound like the movie’s priest, colonel or mother (read church, state, authority) will find Maude’s sometimes gentle, sometimes brash mocking of convention more annoying than enlightening, just as the (not depicted) sexual relationship between Harold and Maude is the thing many people who miss the point remember about the movie. To this, Maude might say, as she does to a police officer, “Don’t be officious. You’re not yourself when you’re officious. That’s the curse of a government job.” Or as she says, when the priest replies that he didn’t like the way she’d painted his statue of the Virgin Mary, “Give it time. It’ll grow on you. Some things take a while to appreciate.”

I had heard about this movie through friends but was never impressed by the story. A reclusive anti social kid who befriends and falls in love with an elderly (though young at heart) eccentric. I wrote it off completely til I saw a bit of it on television and thought it was hilarious and as it turns out I rented the movie and was extremely hooked. Harold is a rich kid with a high strung, selfish mother who tries anything to find a suitor for him, in turn Harold escapes from his home to overshadow funeral processions and memorials. At a number of these events, Maude is in attendence and she lights up the scene with her off the wall, and positively upbeat personality that horrifies and amuses Harold. After a while they become unlikely friends. Maude helps Harold live a little and in turn he develops true affection to Maude. With Ruth Gordon’s charm and incredible acting abilites, and Cat Steven’s classy soundtrack, its not hard to find yourself feeling happy and free after the movie is over. It really teaches you a message about being your own person and enjoying life.

and North, South, East and West (CPP - my approved)

Action Heroes has bits from

duh, Action Hero

T.E.A.M (another fave)

Underwater Discovery

It’s very refreshing to behold three songs instead of seeing the same song 6 times on a DVD, with two attend to support…..noteworthy less irritating for dads and frazzled moms!

Plus, the Fade Your Body DVD has the best skit ever….Captain Puffy Pants baby!! WOOT!!! That is absolutley the most hilarious skit ever….Everybody does a colossal job on that skit, and they especially did an awesome job at the MYB tour….(shhh I heard they did it special for me…hey…it’s not bragging if it’s right!!! he he!!!—hey I wonder if they achieve CPP in the commercial and the current DVD for me too……a girl can dream!!!!)

The dvds are durable, so if you entrust your techno gizmos to exiguous ones, they are perfect….they are brightly colored, so it will bag the eyes of the itsy-bitsy ones at the store…

If you want a fun and eduacational exhibit that will have your kids singing and dancing and learning about shapes, music, numbers, vocabulary and using their imaginations, this is a spacious expose that will have the whole family singing along…a huge retract!

I bought 2 of the videos for my 2 yr. traditional grandson, and it’s all he wants to play with! Animation and cartoons don’t fill his attention, but he thinks he is suitable there dancing with the other kids! Every episode we have watched on tv has had some kind of lesson, AND it’s alot of fun-singing, dancing, and storytelling. I’ll be ordering the rest of the DVDs for Easter baskets and birthdays!
